Triathlon 2nd June and 3rd June

 

Sunday 2nd June saw the Cosmeston Sprint Triathlon take place near Cardiff. The race was 750m of swimming in the lake, was followed by a 20km bike and 5k run. Barry Slocombe from Kingswood Tri completed the event in 1-15’38” and was 44th overall, Roger Harle secretary and the inspiration behind Yate Tristars, and racing for Total Fitness (Bath) improved his best ever time for the event by 3 minutes to finish 78th overall and 3rd veteran male over 50 with a time of 1hr 22’10”.

 

On Monday Triathletes young and old(er) travelled the short distance up the M5 for to Brockworth, for the Gloucester Triathlon and Junior Duathlon. The adult’s event preceded the kid’s event, with both events organised very efficiently the weather becoming better as they day wore on.

 

Simon Spedding chairman of Yate Tristars and racing for Total Fitness (Bath) raced well to finish fifth overall and take the 1st over 40 prize. His times for the three disciplines of 400m swim, 18km bike ride and 6km run was 57’28”.  Hot on his heels was Stuart Salmon from Frampton Cotterell racing for Sodbury Cycle in a time of 59’22”. Also taking part were two members of Kingswood Triathlon Club. First home from Kingswood was Eric “The Eel” Downey who finished strongly in 1-04’47”. Paul Chappell of Hogweed Trotters who has struggled during the early part of the season with a foot injury only lost a couple of minutes on last year’s time to finish in 1-05 ‘40”. Also racing at the event were Jim Bishop of Hogweed Trotters and Stephen Clayson of Yate who finished in 1 hr 9’49” and 1-10’41” respectively. John Milkins was the second member of Kingswood Tri club to take part and came home in 1-14’32”.

 

The under 16’s had a 100m swim and 800m run to complete. Over 80 children took part in the event. In the junior event Sean Hutchinson lead the Yate tri-stars home in 4’09” finishing 6th overall. The Other Tristars all came home in quick succession with Ashlie Spedding in 4’31”, Alex Monyard 4’34”, Simon Hawkins out-sprinted younger brother Kieran to finish in 4’41”, with Kieran 1 second behind, Andrew Monyard came in strong with 5’07”, Phillip Tomlinson took part in his first multi-sport event in and also racing was Hannah Spedding their times were not confirmed however at the end of the event

 

Cycling

 

Riding his lo-pro time trial bike for the first time in race conditions, Ralph Wilson (Bristol RC) recorded another win in the fourth race of Sodbury Cycle Sport 10M TT series.  Times were about a minute slower than in previous races with a strong westerly wind producing difficult cross-wind conditions for most of the course. Ralph finished in 25’00”. Other finishers were:
