Milked=20 Again!

Re=20 Ian's quote after last months article:-

 =93What can I say, except = here=92s to=20 Thruxton=85=85or Waterloo to you John , mate. He=92ll have to count all = the way to=20 eight on the bike section there =96 it=92s in the bag!! = =93

 - Had he arrived on time to = start with=20 everybody else he might of had a slim chance but as it was I beat him by = just=20 under 16 minutes,  Milked = once more,=20 Dummy.............

No=20 doubt Ian will be producing an article for the next magazine about = Thruxton=20 ?

3=20 Up Time Trial - Chippenham

This=20 was a great success and I can say we will be fielding at least three = teams again=20 next year as we all want to have another go.

After=20 advertising, telephoning, press ganging, blackmailing etc. we eventually = came up=20 with 9 members who wanted to play and quickly formed three teams. The = teams=20 comprised

Rich=20 James           &nbs= p;            = ;   =20 Mike Taylor           &nbs= p;            = ;    =20 Steve Penman

John=20 Milkins           &nbs= p;            = ;   =20 Ian Barter           &nbs= p;            = ;       =20 Kelly Monteith

Wayne=20 Osmond           &nbs= p;        =20 Ian Gillard           &nbs= p;            = ;       =20 Matt Attwood

The=20 event date was the 14th October so the Sunday before,  the day of the Bristol Half = Marathon we=20 organised a practice session. This was to be very important as none of = us had=20 ever ridden so fast and close before but luckily this was completed = without any=20 damage to bikes or bodies and set us up well for the following Sunday.=20

Come=20 race day the sun shone and apart from a bit of dampness conditions were = good and=20 we all set off for a good race all dressed in the new Kingswood Tri = Cycle kit (=20 see on ).

The=20 Rich James team were first off but we had been =93knobbled=94 a bit = because the Joe=20 Beer Team comprising Joe and the two owners of AVC at Bath were = immediately=20 behind us, luckily being a three up teams were started at three minute = intervals=20 so we had a bit of a start, but I had been given a load of verbals from = these=20 chaps in the two weeks prior to the start as I usually race for them on = bike=20 events and suspiciously their entry arrived with the organiser after = they knew=20 we were competing so you can imagine the grief we gave them at the = start. But as=20 you can imagine we were as determined not to let them get past as much = as they=20 were determined to pass us !

The=20 first team off did quite well finishing in 62 minutes which was not too = bad for=20 the 25 miles, Wayne doing particularly well as he had not ridden his = gorgeous=20 Look Bike for the

past=20 twelve months. The next Kingswood Team off included the two Ian's but = one was=20 missing at the start, evidently Ian Barter had forgotten his helmet and = went=20 back to get it so the other two started without him, I think this = infringed the=20 rules a bit but this ensured that Ian had a chase on his hands to catch = up,  this was achieved at the = seventeen mile=20 point and as you can imagine he was exhausted at the finish. The final = team had=20 a steady ride and finished in a good time.           &n= bsp;       =20

Back=20 at the HQ and we had tea and cake which is a tradition at these Time = Trialing=20 events. Rich got excited at one stage when we were labelled first vets = but as=20 the times can in we got demoted and I think we finished third in class, = but we=20 did beat the Total Fitness Taem, still not bad for a bunch of = traithletes=20 amongst 27 other teams of cyclists, the AVC Team can in a bit sheepish = about 20=20 seconds behind us having not succeeded in their task to overtake us so = as you=20 can imagine we gave them plenty of stick, then they started to blame = their bikes=20 ??

One=20 thing is sure we will be better prepared next year and at least one of = our teams=20 will go sub 60.

The=20 Inaugural Rhayader (Wales) Sprint Triathlon

By=20 Tony Reed

Gemma=20 and Tony Reed an awesome daughter and Dad duo represented Kingswood = Traithlon=20 Club in the first Rhyader Triathlon over in = Wales.

Gemma=20 did well and was 3rd Female in the open ladies class but if she hadn=92t = stopped=20 to repair her waterproof  = makeup in=20 the transitions she would have been second lady. Tony despite the = organisers=20 trying to give him the senior vets title at the prize giving had to = confess that=20 he hadn't competed the cycle course.

The=20 400 mtr swim was in a 20 mtr length pool, with three lanes and two = competitors=20 per lane, swimming up and down rather than a circuit within a lane was=20 civilised. Gemma had her usual good strong swim and Tony had his = usual  *********  ( censored, Ed )=20 swim.

The=20 17.5km bike ride was undulating, a mixture of main A class roads and = country=20 lanes. Gemma had a good solid ride and Tony was going well when he=20 punctured,   after = doing a =93=20 John Cleese - Fawlty Towers =94 on his bike he noticed that a crowd = (flock?) of=20 sheep had gathered. He abused them ( verbally - he had no wellies ) = before=20 returning to the start.

The=20 5 km run was excellent. A combination of country lanes and farm tracks. = Gemma=20 had a storming run and looked strong at the finish ( is this the result = of the=20 sheep track training ? - without a doubt, Ed). Tony also had a good = powerful=20 run.

Rhayader=20 is 91 miles from Bristol and probably on the limits for a days excursion = (=20 unless its diving - Ed ) but for a small end of season event well worth = a TRI !=20
